In a brief released in March 2020, the International Labour Organization (ILO) outlined the importance of social protection in responding to the COVID-19 crisis. Initially a public health crisis, the pandemic has since developed into a global economic crisis that brings with it a new set of completely different challenges for the economic sector.
Since the crisis has shone a light on the importance of universal access to social protection systems, the brief presents the main areas addressed by national social protection policy responses to the COVID-19 crisis.
