From August 19 to 23, 2024, the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) and the Confederation of Indian Industry – Indian Green Building Council (CII-IGBC) were invited by the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) for a week-long Green Capabilities Trip to Denmark.

The visit aimed at bolstering sustainable practices and provided participants with invaluable insights into Denmark’s advanced sustainability initiatives, particularly in energy, environmental responsibility, and green building practices. The trip helped ECOP in gathering best practices while also fostering a deeper understanding of how enterprises can actively contribute to mitigating climate change and transitioning to a green economy.

The initiative was conducted under DI’s various Strategic Partnership Agreements (SPA) with various countries which include the Philippines and India. ECOP and DI signed its 2nd Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA2) in 2022 for a project entitled “Strengthening Bipartite Relations and Promoting Green, Inclusive, and Sustained Growth.” This renewed collaboration aims to facilitate a more systematic and constructive social dialogue in the Philippines and promote just transition to climate and environment-friendly production.

During the visit, the delegation engaged in a series of meetings with industry experts on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies and the application of sustainable practices within various industries. This session highlighted how Danish companies integrate sustainability into their operations, offering a model for Philippine and Indian businesses to emulate. Participants were also given the opportunity to meet with TVET experts who explained how Denmark’s educational system works.

Company and site visits were also conducted at NCC, Rybners Technical School, and Port Esbjerg offering a deep dive into Denmark’s strategic efforts in the promotion of just transition across different sectors (green construction, green skills, and offshore windmills).

The insights gained from the visit are expected to influence future sustainability initiatives in both the Philippines and India, encouraging the adoption of green practices across various industries.

ECOP was represented by ECOP-DI SPA2 Project Coordinators Ms. Daniella Reyes and Ms. Angela Usero.
