ECOP participated in the “Midterm Assessment of the Philippine Program Against Child Labor 2017-2022 and Planning Workshop for 2020-2022” organized by Department of Labor and Employment – Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (DOLE-BWSC) last 12-13 February 2020 at Sequoia Hotel, Quezon City.

The Philippine Program Against Child Labor (PPACL) is a convergence of the efforts of government agencies, employer groups, workers organizations, non-government organizations, and international social development organizations towards the prevention and elimination of child labor.

The workshop aimed to evaluate the accomplishments, identify gaps and challenges, and plan for the remaining three (3) years of implementation. The workshop also served as a venue to assess the midterm accomplishment of the 2017-2022 target in the Philippine Development Plan to withdraw 630,000 children from child labor.

One of the highlights of the workshop was the discussion of the signed Executive Order No. 92, Series of 2019 entitled “Institutionalizing the National Against Child Labor to upscale the implementation of the Philippine Program Against Child Labor”. DOLE BWSC discussed the proposed structure and other terms under the executive order as guide to the members of the National Child Labor Committee which has been the main body implementing the PPACL.

The 2-day workshop was attended by various stakeholders involved in child labor convergence programs and initiatives from various government agencies, private sector, labor sector, non-government organizations, and civil society groups.
