The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) began the pilot phase of its Employer and Business Membership Organization (EBMO) Professionals Training Academy with Governance as its first module on 9 August 2018 at the ECOP Boardroom. The Academy, when fully operationalized will be dedicated in the training of staff, professionals and executives of employer organizations, business associations, chambers of commerce, foreign chambers, industry associations, and sectoral organizations, to acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and attitude in running and managing them.
More specifically, the EBMO Academy seeks to:
- Establish a formal learning institution that will address the training and skills needs of executives and staff of EBMOs
- Establish a national network for EBMOs to share experiences, showcase best practices, and promote professional development among executives and staff
Facilitated by Mr. Jose Roland A. Moya, the Director General of ECOP, the first session focused on employer organizations, institutions, and tools related to governance. The attendees included some of ECOP’s managers and technical staff, as well as representatives from other EBMOs such as the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PHILEXPORT) and the Philippine Association of Legitimate Service Contractors (PALSCON).
Through this module, ECOP, PHILEXPORT, and PALSCON shared their experiences and how they operate as an EBMO in terms of member assemblies, payment of dues, and other responsibilities. Mr. Moya also tackled the differences and similarities of the three aforementioned EBMOs when it comes to the composition and structure of their organizations, as well as the Board and the Secretariat.
The other modules to be pilot-tested include membership recruitment and retention, advocacy and communication, revenue-building, and services delivery.
