On December 18, 2024, Crafter’s Joy Cornhusk Products participated in a transformative SDG Value Scan session organized by the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP). This session used the Value Scan Tool, originally developed by the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) and localized by ECOP for the Philippine context. As one of the pioneering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Basista, Pangasinan, Crafter’s Joy has incorporated sustainability measures into its operations since its inception in 2006. Specializing in eco-friendly products, their handcrafted creations range from delicate flowers and novelty items to durable slippers, stylish bags, and accessories for men and women, which are all made using organic materials such as Cornhusks, Abaca, Buri, and Bangkuan grass.

The primary aim of the SDG Value Scan was to help Crafter’s Joy distinguish its priority Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among the 17 established goals. Through this session, they identified three priority SDGs: SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). These goals align perfectly with their mission to promote sustainable economic growth while fostering community development through responsible production practices and nurturing local livelihood. By integrating sustainability into their business model, Crafter’s Joy is not only enhancing its operational efficiency but also contributing to a greener economy.

By facilitating this SDG Value Scan session, ECOP has equipped the enterprise with valuable insights to align its operations with global sustainability standards, thereby enhancing its competitiveness in both local and international markets. As Crafter’s Joy Cornhusk Products continues to innovate and expand its sustainable product offerings, it sets a benchmark for others in the manufacturing industry to follow, demonstrating that profitability and sustainability can go hand in hand.
