Program Overview
Compliance is good for business.
The glare of media attention, spontaneity of online technology and rapidly changing habits of customers have prompted global brands to implement more extensive and comprehensive due diligence in their supply chains. They favor intermediaries that could prove their compliance to international and national laws and standards on human rights, environmental protection, labor relations, and financial accountability.
What is Responsible Business Conduct (RBC)? Why are global companies looking at it?
RBC revolves around international instruments on labor practices, forced and child labor, workers’ rights, equal employment opportunities, anti-harassment, occupational safety and health, freedom of association, collective bargaining, working hours, etc. Companies wishing to become more competitive and expand their markets must demonstrate compliance thereto by way of policies, programs, and systems that should exist not only on paper but through actual practice. They should expect buyers to conduct an assessment of compliance through self-assesments, certification schemes, codes of conduct, more commonly known as social audit.
ECOP’s promotion of responsible business conduct is anchored on both national labor legislation and international instruments especially the Core Conventions of the International Labor Organisation (ILO). ECOP recognizes that compliance to these instruments is a requisite to remain a supplier of choice in the international market and even create a competitive advantage over other suppliers in the local market.
