The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) organized a multi-stakeholder workshop last 23 September 2019.  The workshop focused on the review of Chapter 11 of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) on “Reducing the vulnerability of individuals and families”. The activities during the workshop focused on the individual, economic, natural and human-induced, and governance and political risks that may be faced by Filipinos, and the strategies to address their impact.

The multi-stakeholder workshop is in line with Memorandum Circular No. 1 s. 2019 of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), which mandates an update of the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 (PDP). Inter-agency meetings and regional consultations are being coordinated by NEDA to review and update the strategies, policies, targets, programs and projects identified in the PDP, result matrices, and regional development plans.

ECOP, representing Philippine employers, attended the said workshop and was grouped with other stakeholders in the “economic risks” group. In the discussion, the group focused on decent work, inclusion of those in the informal economy and overseas Filipinos to the coverage of social protection, and the improvement in the implementation of the ease of doing business law to encourage small enterprises in going fully into entrepreneurship.

The reviewed PDP, as per NEDA, is targeted to be released early 2020. To know more about ECOP’s involvement in the Philippine Development Plan, you may contact Ms. Marianne Rosas, Advocacy and Research Assistant, at [email protected] or at [email protected].
