The Safe and Fair (Philippines) National Project Advisory Committee (NPAC) convened its second virtual meeting last 08 May 2020 to briefly discuss the draft Safe & Fair Philippines Country situationer on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact to Filipino migrant workers and their families. The situationer tackles the issues, impacts, and responses on women and gender dimensions.

During the meeting, representatives from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration shared their continued services and programs for OFWs, either abroad and in the Philippines (especially for women) amidst the pandemic. There was also sharing of suggestions as to the involvement of the Committee in crafting of recovery and resiliency plans post-lockdown.

As both the International Domestic Workers Day and the Philippines’ National Day of Migrant Workers are both celebrated in June, the group also tackled how it should be celebrated virtually. Mr. Rex Varona, the program manager, suggested a webinar series. This will be further discussed in the next meetings to allow other members come up with their idea and topic suggestions.

The Safe and Fair (Philippines) Programme is a joint project of the International Labour Organization Country Office in the Philippines (ILO CO-Manila) and UN Women Philippines. ECOP is part of the NPAC.
