Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training

Overview:

Under Rule 1033 of Philippine Occupational Safety and Health Standards (as amended) and DO 16 series of 2001, to wit “The minimum qualifications, duties, and number of required safety and health officers shall be as follows: 1) All safety officers must complete the Bureau-prescribed training course prior to their appointment in their respective places of employment; 2) All full-time safety officers must meet the requirement of duly-accredited Safety Practitioners or Safety Consultants by the Bureau; and 3) Not less than the required number of supervisors or technical personnel shall take the required training and shall be appointed as a safety officer on a full-time or part-time basis, depending on the number of workers employed and the hazardous or non-hazardous nature of the workplace.”

 

The Employers Confederation of the Philippines is offering the 40hr DOLE Bureau of Working Conditions approved course on Basic Occupational Safety and Health and the International Labour Organization’s Essentials of Occupational Safety and Health program. At the end of the course, participants may be able to understand and apply the principles of basic safety as well as they will be able to get an accredited DOLE certification. This program is targeted for the vast business operations such as services, manufacturing, and merchandising but limited to construction operations. The course is compressed to 4-days from the traditional 5-day training it includes the DOLE prescribed courses and essentials of occupational safety and health package.


Program Outline:

 

Day 1 – Leveling of expectation, Introduction of participants, Administrative information
Introduction: Basic Principles and Practices; Recognizing Hazards and Risks, Legislation

    • Introduction to Occupational Safety & Health (OSH)
    • Basic Work Accident Causations Theories
    • Hazards Recognition, Identification, Assessment and Control/Industrial Hygiene
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Day 2 – Recap of Day 1
Hazard and risk recognition and Occupational Safety

    • Machine Safety
    • Electrical Safety and Control of Hazardous Energy (COHE)
    • Fire Safety
    • Materials Handling and Storage
    • Emergency Preparedness
    • Special Topics – Confined Space or Ladder Safety

Day 3 – Recap of Day 2:
Hazard and risk recognition, Investigation and Behavior-Based Safety

    • Behavior-Based
    • Safety Motivation, and Communication
    • Accident Investigation
    • Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)

Day 4 – Recap of Day 3:
Hazard and risk recognition, Investigation

    • OSH Standards and Other Regulatory Requirements
    • Role of Supervisors
    • Adult Learning
    • Contractors’/Subcontractors’ Management or Control of Contractors/Subcontractors

Exercise Workshop on Accident – Most Recent Accident

Site Visit and Inspection, Occupational Health, OSH Programming, and Re-entry

    • Safety Inspection Lecture
    • Actual Safety Inspection/Site Visit
    • Workshop/Presentation of Observations on the Site visit
    • Occupational Health and First Aid
    • Setting up the Safety and Health Program. The program should be based on OSHS and related Rules, and related laws and policies.

Closing Ceremony, Course Evaluation, Awarding of Certificate
