The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) supports and promotes socially responsible business practices. ECOP makes available to its constituents in the business community various resources, tools and services which will help them become good corporate citizens.

One of the areas in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) where ECOP has done a considerable amount of work is child labor. ECOP is in the forefront of the fight against child labor, especially its worst forms.

It is in this light that ECOP established a Child Labor Free and Child Friendly Recognition Program to highlight the many examples adopted by business through corporate policies and concrete initiatives that uphold the rights of children, protect their interests, and promote their welfare. Through this program, companies are encouraged to apply their policies and practices in their supply chain especially in the informal sector where conditions are less regulated. The program advocates for greater transparency among businesses by urging them to publicize the steps that they are taking to forestall the occurrence of the worst forms of child labor in the workplace and opening up their facilities to public scrutiny. It likewise calls upon them to work together with government and civil society, as the role of business cannot be seen in isolation of the role that other important social actors must also play.

This year, ECOP, along with other organizations supporting the call to end child labor, especially its worst forms is joining the Philippine Celebration of the World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL)on June 14, 2011.
