The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) conducted a series of orientation on responsible business conduct (RBC) in Iloilo, Baguio, and Pampanga. The module for the RBC orientation was developed support of The Walt Disney Company and in cooperation with the Employers’ Activities Programme of the International Centre of the ILO (ACT/EMP ITC-ILO). It consists of two (2) components: first on RBC covering discrimination, child labor, forced labor, social security, freedom of association, minimum salary and overtime, and management system, and second on occupational safety and health (OSH). The module was developed by ITC-ILO but has been localized by a joint team from the secretariats of ECOP and Philippine Exporters Confederation (Philexport) who have been trained online and face-to-face over a period of two (2) months.
The workshop in Iloilo was held on October 16, 2018. ECOP partnered the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Iloilo Chapter (PCCI Iloilo) under the leadership of Atty. Jobert Peñaflorida. The workshop in Baguio was held last October 29, 2018, with ECOP North Luzon Chapter headed by Mr. Salvador Poserio, as ECOP’s partner. The workshop in Pampanga was also held last October 29, 2018. ECOP partnered with PHILEXPORT Pampanga led by its Executive Director, Ms. Marilou Balano.
The objective of the orientation is to establish the business case of RBC, orient and familiarize the participants on various facets of RBC, and to assess the level of the participants’ understanding and compliance to RBC standards.
The orientations were delivered by Mr. Rami Hourani, Mr. Jose Roland A. Moya, and Mr. Rob Maronilla, who were among those who underwent a rigorous 30-hour distance learning and 5-day face-to-face workshop conducted by the Employers’ Activities Programme of the International Centre of the ILO (ACT/EMP ITC-ILO), in Bangkok last September.
The next orientation on responsible business conduct will be held on November 28, 2018 in Marco Polo, Davao City.
