The International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Office for the Philippines recently held a tripartite consultation on the SDGs and employment policies: Macroeconomic, sectoral, and labour market policies for structural transformation and full and productive employment last 16 September 2019 at Makati Diamond Residences, Makati City.

The consultation reviewed the draft Philippine country study which aims to provide a comprehensive diagnostic of opportunities and challenges associated with promoting full and productive employment in the country.

The tripartite consultation provided ILO constituents with policy recommendations and options on implementing and making progress on SDG8, and in particular targets 8.1, 8.2, 8.5, and 8.6 and inform the development and update of national employment policies, youth employment strategies, and sectoral policies including gender perspective.

The consultation meeting was attended by labor union representatives, members of civil society organizations, and ECOP secretariat staff and chapter presidents including Ms. Alona Obispo of ECOP Quezon, Mr. Ed Nicolas of ECOP South Luzon, and Ms. Clarine Palomares of ECOP Bicol.

At the end of the consultation, ECOP suggested to the ILO that a Visayas-wide and Mindanao-wide consultation also be done to capture the inputs of other stakeholders and social partners in the area.
