The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) together with Federation of Free Workers and with the support of Danish Trade Union Council for International Development Cooperation (LO-FTF Council) collaborated with  Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (Philexport) in the  conduct of a seminar on principles-based, inclusive and business sustainable corporate social responsibility (CSR) on October 22, 2018 at the boardroom of the Philexport office.

On the other hand, the partnership with Clark Development Corporation on CSR begun in May 2018 during the launch of the final CSR baseline study where Danish partners were present. From then, synergy initiatives were exchanged from ECOP and Philexport.

Mr. Sergio Ortiz Luis Jr., president of Philexport, emphasized that Philexport   is an advocate of  CSR.  “For us, it is the best opportunity to demonstrate the “human face” of business – which, in turn, leads to a more favorable company image, employee satisfaction, company productivity, and better relations with the community, among others.” he said in his opening remarks.

Participants of the workshop are management representatives from the different industry associations, members and regional chapters of Philexport.

The workshop-seminar intended to contribute to the increasing awareness among employers and workers’ representatives on the benefits of sound national and sectoral CSR policies and strategies for economic and social development. Among the topics discussed during the sessions were : What is principles – based, inclusive and business sustainable CSR? (The triple bottom-line), Principles-based CSR: international instruments (salient features), compliance and strategic levels of CSR, and the business and trade union cases for CSR.

At the end of the workshop, participants were asked to define a list of CSR activities (action plan) as part of the way forward for the project.
