With over 250 participants from both member and non-member companies, ECOP recently conducted its 21st Executive Labor Updates (ELU) on “Managing Mental Health in the Workplace” on March 5, 2020 at the I’M Hotel, Makati City.

The 21st ELU aimed to provide employers and IR/HR practitioners with the latest developments on Republic Act No. 11306, otherwise known as the “Mental Health Act”, and the recently issued Department Order No. 208, Series of 2020, or the “Guidelines for the Implementation of the Mental Health Workplace Policies and Programs for the Private Sector”.

The symposium focused on the salient features of the D.O., dealing with mental health issues in the workplace, and employer perspectives on policies and programs pushing forward mental health wellness and work-life integration in the workplace.

ECOP invited Ms. Jennifer Obien of the DOLE – Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC), Dr. Ron R. Resurreccion of the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP), and Ms. Tess Azicate of the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) to discuss the said topics.

During the event, ECOP has conducted a poll among the participants and as per the results, about 79% of the companies present still do not have an existing mental health policy or program in their respective organizations.

In addition, 44% need assistance in the development of a mental health policy and program in order to comply with the D.O. Other participants voiced out the need for the conduct of training or orientation seminars, as well as networking for referral services.
