ECOP’s 41st MGM held on June 19 at Henry Sy Sr. Auditorium of St. Luke’s Global City discussed the implementing rules and regulations of the expanded maternity law or RA11210. The event was attended by 149 business executives, HR/IR practitioners and payroll officers from member and non-member companies of ECOP.

Mr. Federico Marquez, ECOP Governor in-charge of Membership, welcomed and thanked the participants for their continued support to ECOP and its advocacies. He encouraged employers to comply with the new expanded maternity leave law even if it means shouldering the salary differential of maternity benefits. Mr. Marquez also urged the participants to raise all their questions pertaining to the new maternity law and at the same time take the opportunity to network with other participants.

The presentation of Atty. Kristine Dacuyan-Eugenio, Attorney III of Opinion and Research Department of Social Security System focused mostly on the guidelines and implementation of SSS of the new law specifically on the computation of maternity leave benefits. On the other hand, Director Ma. Teresita Cucueco of Bureau of Working Condition (BWC) discussed thoroughly the IRR of the expanded maternity leave law including the liability of employers for non-compliance.

As additional topic for the MGM, Atty. Giovanni Melgar shared his insights on the pending Senate Bill No. 1826 otherwise known as Security of Tenure (SOT) bill which his industry association, Philippine Association of Legitimate Service Contractors (PALSCON)  will be greatly affected. He presented the salient provisions of the SOT bill vis-à-vis Art. 106 & 107 of the Labor Code such as the requirements in the issuance of license to qualified job contractors. He also cited relevant jurisprudence on contracting and subcontracting.

An added feature of the MGM was the presentation of Ms. Liza Manalo-Mapagu, CEO of HR Avatar Asia, who discussed the importance of talent management and why it is critical for the success of the organization. She emphasized that talents are not just about high performers; talents are groomed to become future leaders in the organization. Ms. Mapagu also presented some trends and practices in talent management.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Jose Roland Moya, Director-General of ECOP, briefly updated the participants on the resolution of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board- NCR dismissing four (4) pending petitions filed by labor organizations to increase minimum wages.
