BUSINESS CASES, BUSINESS CARES: A SERIES ON GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICES

Series 1: Responses during the Enhanced Community Quarantine

The Philippines is currently at a very critical point in the response to COVID-19 pandemic.

Businesses around the country are facing output slowdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Coupled with the declaration of an “Enhanced Community Quarantine” in Luzon, the impact of COVID-19 on the economy may be larger than first anticipated. Thousands of employees in Metro Manila are now out of work and will be without income for a month due to the said quarantine in the region.

Employers are also reeling from the cessation of business operations and economic activities at the same time they have to look after the welfare of their employees during the month-long quarantine.

On this note, ECOP has asked its constituents in the business community to share with us their best practices on flexible work arrangements, additional paid leaves during quarantine, or even paying full wage during work reductions. We, at ECOP, would like to spread models of corporate programs during the crisis to encourage other companies which have the ability and capacity to emulate them.

These stories are a testament to businesses’ care for their workers during these difficult times.
